"No, Park we're not gaming tonight because it's Roosevelt's birthday. Stop calling him that, he is not. He's a hell of a lot smarter than you for starters. And I'm not having this conversation with you, either come to mine and celebrate my best friend's birthday or don't. It's up to you," Lincoln began, groaning as he put the phone down on Park. He could never understand why his friends couldn't all get along together. Park was a... okay, bad example. Lee was awesome but even she and Roosevelt bickered. And his best bro was going to be thirty tomorrow and it was up to Lincoln to throw him the best party ever.

...
....
.....

He really sucked at throwing parties. He had beer, food, music, people were supposed to be coming but he just hated that whole pre-party waiting thing. He wasn't meant to be a social butterfly, he was quite happy being an introspective nerd who had a set of amazing outgoing friends (and girlfriend.) He was quite happy being the wallflower. But he had to suck it up tonight for Roosevelt.

Hearing the bell, he ran to the door and opened it wide before smiling in relief.

"Oh thank god you're here," Lincoln began throwing his arms around the first guest.

Samantha made a mental note to tell Roosevelt that he was free to take whomever he wanted for his birthday present and that it didn't necessarily have to be her. She loved football as much as the next person, but some things you almost had to experience with a friend. Besides, it wasn't as if there weren't more games to go to.

"I'm looking forward to seeing the two of you interact. I've never really seen it, I've just seen you both talking about the other. Now, I brought wine as well. Where would you like me to put it?"

"I've got white and red," Samantha told him as she moved in towards the kitchen. "I'll open the red so it has a chance to breathe a little. Of course, I'll let the first glass of it breathe in my glass, but I have to taste it first, right? Make sure it's not vinegar?"

She did just that and turned back to him with glass in hand. "Can I trust you to not tell him? Or will it be more fun for you to tease him that you know and he doesn't?"

"All right then," Samantha replied with another sip from her glass. She hoped to God she nailed this and, really, checking Lincoln's reaction would probably be the best indicator of that. Not to mention she still had time to change it, or get something else, if she missed the mark.

"I got him two VIP experience tickets to the Patriots home opener this season."

She took another drink of her wine to hide that she was metaphorically holding her breath.

Sam blushed over his exuberance. "Well. Okay then." She gave a loud exhale, then laughed. "I'm going to guess that I hit big if your reaction is any indication. Good. So. Phew." With another loud exhale and a realization that her wine glass was now empty, she poured a second one that she intended to nurse. "And for the record, I think something you made yourself that will last him for years to come is much better. You do such incredible work, Lincoln. Anyone would be thrilled to have a piece for their home."

Samantha pressed her lips together, but she was working on that. Just in case her efforts were in vain, she didn't want to get anyone's hopes up. "I'm just glad I hit the mark for his present. I didn't even know his birthday was coming up until I met his girlfriend at the beach party and she told me. Gave me a few bad moments because it was something I should have known. And now that I know he'll probably like it, I've completely avoided disaster."

She gave another relieved exhale and toasted Lincoln with her glass. "That's a sweet thought, but I really don't have any room in my loft. But maybe something for the shop," she said, finger to her chin in thought. "That would be lovely."

"I'm going to have to take a good look at my stock and see what I have, and what I could display better. Do you want to stop by sometime this week and help me look at what I have or what you could make that would do a better job of it?"
